Sounds of Spring Under Sheets of Snow

Display Year:

2023

Sounds of Spring Under Sheets of Snow was an audio-visual installation inspired by the hidden life that thrives beneath winter’s surface. The piece resembled snowdrifts or sheets of ice. Concealed lights and speakers played a continuous loop of nature sounds, frogs croaking, crickets and birds chirping, evoking the quiet energy of spring waiting beneath the snow.

As snow accumulated on the installation, it added unique lighting effects, transforming the piece over time and deepening its connection to the winter landscape.

Artist Statement:

Growing up in a secluded wooded environment, I learned early on in my life that all creatures play an important role. It is no surprise that these early encounters would be reflected in my artwork through large scale depictions of animals, insects, and landscapes. I continued to expand on this idea by representing the relationships that are shared between humanity and the environment. I often use light, sound, and texture to create a multi-sensory experience. It is my goal to connect with the viewer through their senses so that they are no longer viewing the art, they are experiencing the art.
