To me and my people the Bald Eagle is a sacred animal, with the closest relationship to the Creator. Soaring high into the sky, traveling from the physical and into the spiritual world carrying our prayers on its wings. This work was inspired by my journey to study silversmithing in July 2023 at the Diné College in Tsaile, Arizona. We were given a blank piece of silver, which we designed, shaped and stamped.  As I was working on the design for Alarum, I was having challenges developing a concept and then I thought about the bracelet design in it’s flat form before we finished them, and rounded them to our wrists. Each end of the flat silver design was adorned with the feathers of a Bald Eagle, and that is how I designed this work.

Alarum has two modes, Performance Mode and Attraction mode. When in Attraction Mode Alarum will display a calm cycle of undulating colors and soundwaves, with moments of energetic color patterns and auditory embellishments to spark curiosity and invite exploration. While in Attraction Mode guests will be able to interact with Alarum by activating touch sensors that will produce outbursts of color and sound. When Alarum is in Performance Mode, viewers will be taken on an audio visual journey of light animation of light and sound. Performance Mode will activate every 15 minutes for a 2-3 minute duration.
