Debuting in Grand Rapids, Alarum has two modes: Attraction Mode and Performance Mode. In Attraction Mode, the installation undulates with calm cycles of color and sound, inviting interaction. Touch sensors trigger bursts of color and sound as guests explore. Every 15 minutes, Alarum shifts into Performance Mode, offering a 2-3 minute audio-visual journey of dynamic light and sound animation.

Artist Statement:

Alarum
Alarum, meaning “wing” in Latin, is an immersive light and sound installation shaped like the wingspan of a Bald Eagle. Made of geometrically arranged LED Pixel Tubes, it invites viewers into a world of vibrant color and sound.

The Bald Eagle is sacred to me and my people, symbolizing a connection to the Creator. Soaring between the physical and spiritual realms, it carries our prayers on its wings. This work was inspired by my experience studying silversmithing at Diné College in Arizona, where I designed a bracelet with eagle feathers at each end. This design became the foundation for Alarum.

Artist Bio

Two Eagles Marcus is a multi-disciplinary artist that draws from his experiences with graphic design, 3D animation, motion design, music production, photography, videography, materials fabrication, and interpersonal intelligence to create engaging social art experiences. He was born in Warren, Michigan in 1974 and lives and works in Rockford. He is an indigenous Native American and a registered member of the Red Willow People of Taos Pueblo in Taos, New Mexico, United States.
